UDA summons Senator Orwoba over 'disloyalty' in Matiang’i welcome, radio remarks

The committee’s statement criticised her April 22, 2025, interview on Spice FM, where she questioned the labour mobility programme, a key initiative of President William Ruto’s administration.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) disciplinary committee has summoned Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba over actions that allegedly violated the party's code of conduct.

The party raised concerns about three specific instances, which include her participation in the welcoming of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, as well as attending his homecoming ceremony at Gusii Stadium.

In a statement released by the disciplinary committee, which is chaired by Charles Njenga, UDA outlined that these actions were seen as an indication of Orwoba’s disloyalty to the party.

The committee’s statement also criticised her April 22, 2025, interview on Spice FM, where she questioned the labour mobility programme, a key initiative of President William Ruto’s administration.

"Your participation and utterances in the above-stated events clearly demonstrate instances and proof of allegiance to another political movement, conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to the United Democratic Alliance Party (hereafter the party) and which nominated you to the office and position of Senator in the Senate of the Republic of Kenya," the statement read.

The party has now invited Senator Orwoba to explain her actions at a disciplinary hearing scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2025, at 9 am. The meeting will take place at the Hustler Plaza, Fourth Floor Board Room. During the hearing, Orwoba will be expected to justify her conduct and provide reasons why she should not face disciplinary action.

"Kindly note that if the committee finds you liable, it shall forthwith remit its decision to the national executive committee of the party for further action, including the implementation and execution thereof," the statement noted.
